GE agianst our "Ethics"

Students of Jainism, Kalina University

“I’m astonished, surprised and shocked that how this can happen in my country.”

“We appeal to the government to stop all the genetically grown crops, and please give us the food which was eaten by us when we were school going children, so we can pass on the same tradition of organically grown food to our future generation.”

“Genetically modified products should be banned in India to protect our life and quality of land.”

“As a consumer I don’t want it in the market. We don’t want to purchase it then why you people want to sell it?”

“As a Jain myself, I don’t want to eat these supposedly vegetarian food sold by these companies.”

“We want fresh and real food.”

“These people are just playing with our religion and the feelings of the people who are fully vegetarian.”

“In India it is highly impossible to fight against any adulterated food or a consumer product, so better not to allow them to come to India.”

“I have studied about GE but the presentation was an eye-opener. The intensity of its damage is scary. I strongly oppose its entry and usage in this country.”

India is an agricultural country. These GM foods would in the long run ruin the basic strength of our nation because these foods probably might look and taste better, but they go by the saying, ‘all that glitters is not gold,’…as a human I want a safe and healthy life for myself and my family and hence I strongly oppose GM foods.”

“There should be complete eradication and banishment of such genetic food products.”

“The new generation of India is the pillars of this country. We want to be healthy.”

“Please stop playing with the life and environment on earth.”

“What is just made known is just ‘depressing.’ But one can’t stop being a coward. One has to act. Yes, it has to stop. NO-NO-NO to GM products.”

“The effects of GM seeds are already visible in India. I want an absolute end to this idiotic nonsense. Jai Hind. God save the planet from these monsters.”

These are some of the angry letters received from the students studying Jainism at Kalina University, Mumbai, after they were given a presentation about the issue of Genetically Modified food organisms by the volunteers of Greenpeace India on the 5th of September
No dilly dallying the issue. These quotes say it all.
